Building Futures Together took part in Heart of Yorkshire Education Group’s Give Construction a Try event to help raise awareness of the sector to young people.
Over 40 different hands-on construction related activities were held at the college’s Castleford Campus.
Education organisations and commercial businesses came together to inform young people in West Yorkshire about the opportunities available to them.
The event also aimed to inspire young people to consider a career in construction by giving them chance to try trades by getting hands on and learning basic skills on the day.
There was also chance for those attending to ask questions and pick the brains of industry and education leaders.
Building Futures Together Director, John Thornton, said: “It was a great event to show young people all the opportunities, options and diversity there is in the industry.
“There are so many options available to people in construction many of which a lot of people don’t know about.
“There is a wide range of on-site trades and skills supported by varied office roles that include design, planning, finance and administration to name just a few.
“And with a skills gap in the sector, there are great opportunities for so many young people at the moment to set themselves up with very rewarding, lifelong careers.
“The event reinforces our mantra about giving boys and girls the chance to try construction and see if it is for them – there really is nothing to lose.”
