Leeds, 27 November 2025: Pudsey-based Building Futures Together (BFT) has been named a finalist in the Secure Accommodation Network (SAN) national awards, which recognise staff and support services that demonstrate excellence across all disciplines within secure children’s homes and secure schools.

Independent training provider BFT has been shortlisted in the category for ‘Best Practice Innovation Award’ for its work at Adel Beck Secure Children’s Home in Leeds.

Since September 2025, BFT colleagues Jack Brier and Callum Watmuff have run three weekly City & Guilds Level 1 construction skills sessions for young people aged 12 to 18 based at the home. The programme gives residents practical experience in electrical and mechanical work while introducing them to the construction industry.

Jack Brier at BFT said: “It’s an incredible achievement to have been shortlisted in these prestigious awards.

“When Adel Beck approached BFT and asked if we could replicate our schools programme within the children’s home, we jumped at the chance as our aim is to engage and encourage all young people through vocational learning, and showcase the many opportunities and benefits a career in construction provides. The students have been really engaged and a
pleasure to teach. It’s great to be recognised for our work but most importantly, we hope the sessions have inspired some of the young people.”

The winners of the awards will be revealed at the SAN national conference.

Co-founded in 2020 to help prevent more young people from becoming NEET (not in education, employment or training), BFT supports students passionate about joining the construction industry through its schools, holiday and 16-19 programmes. Its schools programme engages with pupils who struggle with the curriculum or are missing from education, whilst its holiday programme is open to all young people aged 14-19 with an interest in pursuing a career in the construction industry.
